Turkish Wrestler Bediha Gün in women’s freestyle 53 kg qualified for Rio 2016 Olympic Games on the second day of the 2nd Olympic Games Wrestling World Qualifying Tournament held in Bağcılar Sports Complex in Istanbul, Turkey.
Bediha Gün defeated Taiwanese Hsin-Ju Chiu 8-0 in the qualification match, Hungarian Mercedesz Denes 7-0 in the quarterfinals, French Melanie Lydie Sandra Lesaffre 5-2 in the semi-finals. Bediha lost to her Ukranian opponent Yuliia Khavaldzhy Blahinya 10-4 in the finals and qualified for Rio 2016 by winning the silver medal.
Other Turkish wrestler Evfin Demirhan in women’s freestyle 48 kg defeated Portuguese Liliana Costa Dos Santos 4-3 in the qualification match, German Jaqueline Saskia Schellin 6-1 in the 1/8 match, Swedish Fredrika Ida Petersson 6-3 in the quarterfinals but lost to Indian Vinesh Vinesh 12-2 in the semi-finals. Demirhan defeated Ukranian Nataliya Pulkovska 12-0 in the bronze medal match and won the bronze medal.
The tournament will continue with men’s freestyle wrestling tomorrow. Süleyman Atlı in men’s 57 kg. will compete for Turkey on the last day of the tournament.
Taha Akgül in men’s freestyle 125 kg, Selim Yaşar in men’s freestyle 86 kg, İbrahim Bölükbaşı in men’s freestyle 97 kg, Soner Demirtaş in men’s freestyle 74 kg, Yakup Gör in men’s freestyle 65 kg, Elif Jale Yeşilırmak in women’s freestyle 58 kg, Buse Tosun in women’s freestyle 69 kg, Yasemin Adar in women’s 75 kg, Hafize Şahin in women’s freestyle 63 kg, Rıza Kayaalp in men’s Greco-Roman 130 kg, Selçuk Çebi in men’s Greco-Roman 75 kg and Cenk İldem in men’s Greco-Roman 98 kg had already qualified for Rio 2016 Olympic Games in wrestling.
