Sports Culture and Olympic Education Commission

TOC’s “Sports Culture and Olympic Education Project (Oli)” aims to help young generations acquire a sports culture early in life and to ingrain sporting values and Olympic spirit to the nation’s youth. The Project, implemented by TOC’s Sports Culture and Olympic Education Committee since 11 years, encourages students in the 4th and 5th grades of the elementary schools to participate in physical activities and contributing to their healthy development physically, mentally and socially. Oli Project enjoys full cooperation of the Ministry of National Education, Provincial Directorates of Sports and local municipalities. It is the only educational project approved by the Ministry of National Education to be implemented in the elementary schools of the country.

The project is the culmination of meticulous work undertaken by experts, academicians and child psychologists and is revised, refined, developed and updated regularly addressing to new developments. Professional presenter and the cherished mascot “Oli" visit the schools in different cities of Turkey and interactively explain sports culture and Olympic Games as well as its philosophy, Olympism, Fair Play, healthy nutrition and environmental awareness through various videos, cartoons, small competitions, colourful images puzzles and riddles. Children actually enjoy themselves as they focus on the presentations and the intended education is given through the sessions which they eagerly follow. Oli Project has been included by the IOC among the best projects carried out under worldwide Olympic values education programmes.

45 minute presentations, usually organized up to five days per week and at least two presentations in a day, are performed according to a specific plan and programmed every semester. Oli Project has been effectively implemented in more than 5.000 schools in about 50 provinces of the country, reaching out to some 1.750.000 children in the past 11 years.
