P&G (Procter & Gamble) Turkey, a partner of Turkish Olympic Committee (TOC) sponsored Turkish Wrestler Taha Akgül and his mother Gülbahar Akgül within their “Thank you Mom” campaign. Being one of the global partners of International Olympic Committee, P&G will take Taha’s mother to Rio de Janeiro to share her son’s excitement at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
The press conference of the sponsorship took place in Istanbul Grand Hyatt Hotel on 26 April 2016. TOC President Prof. Dr. Uğur Erdener, P&G Turkey/Caucasus Vice President and Country General Manager Tankut Turnaoğlu, Turkish wrestler Taha Akgül and his mother Gülbahar Akgül attended the meeting.
Reminding that TOC and P&G have been in a long-term cooperation to promote Olympism in Turkey and to encourage children, young people and their families to do sports, TOC President Prof. Dr. Uğur Erdener said “We aim to improve the lives of children in Turkey through sports and bring them together with the Olympic spirit. With the “Thank You Mom” campaign; besides thanking the mothers, we also want to highlight the importance of creating awareness and ensuring the development of sports culture as well as the importance of the mothers in encouraging the children towards sports. We thank the mothers who raised these athletes, as much as the athletes who are participating at the Olympic Games.”
Stating that “Thank You Mom” campaign is the most important project of P&G in its 179-year history, P&G Turkey/Caucasus Vice President and Country General Manager Tankut Turnaoğlu said “P&G has been supporting the families by developing products that help make everyday life little bit easier for mothers.We are aware of the fact that behind every strong athlete, there is a mother who makes their journey to the Olympic Games possible. We are very happy to accompany Taha Akgül together with his mother in his journey to Rio 2016. We wish him all the success.”
Expressing his happiness for enjoying the P&G’s support within the campaign, the two times world champion Turkish wrestler Taha Akgül added “My greatest dream has been to compete at the Rio 2016 Games and return home with a medal. My mother has been my biggest supporter on the way to Rio. I am very happy that, in recognition of this support, P&G will be together with us in Rio.”
Taha’s mother Gülbahar Akgül said “I am very happy that I am going to be with my son in his most important day at the Olympic Games. I am very excited as this will be the first time I go abroad and will be able to watch my son there.”
