Turkish athlete Esma Aydemir won the gold medal at European 10.000m Cup held in Nevin Yanıt Athletics Complex in Mersin, Turkey and Turkish women’s team placed second in team ranking.
Esma Aydemir finished the race in front of Italian Rosario Console by 11 seconds in 33:33.38, improving her personal best a full minute, making an important contribution to the team points with this result.
Console won the silver medal with 33:44.11 and Jennt Nesbitt won the bronze with her 33:45.46 time. Other Turkish athletes Sevilay Eytemiş placed fourth with 33:53.92 and Fadime Suna placed 18th. Great Britain became the champion in team ranking where Turkey placed second ahead of Spain.
In men’s; European champion Italian Daniele Meucci won the gold medal with his time of 28:24.71, where Spanish Juan Perez placed second with 28:28.93 and Italian Jamel Chatbi placed third with 28:32.85. Turkish athletes Mert Girmalegesse finshed the race in the 17th place with 30:55.58, Onur Aras placed 18th with 31:01.43 and Ramazan Karagöz placed 21st with 32:15.13. Italy became the champion in team ranking, Spain placed second, Ukraine placed third where Turkey placed fifth.
