Turkish Olympic Committee’s (TOC) traditional Samsung Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race was held on 24th of July. The race was given start by the Turkish Minister of Youth and Sports Akif Çağatay Kılıç. 1.535 swimmers from 49 countries participated at the 6.5 km Race from Kanlıca on the Asian to Kuruçeşme Cemil Topuzlu Park on the European side of İstanbul. 362 women and 1173 male swimmers competed at the 28th edition of the Samsung Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race. The times were kept with personal ankle-bands equipped with special chips.
Ömer Tara (Turkey) came in first, followed by Dimitar Videnov (Bulgaria) and Arda Kip (Turkey), in men’s overall classification. Nilay Erkal (Turkey) took the first place in women’s overall classification. Deniz Güngöroğlu (Turkey) was second and Ekinsu Tezel (Turkey) was third.
The honor guest of the race Australian champion swimmer Shelley Taylor-Smith also took place in the race. The medals and trophies of the winners in men’s were presented by TOC President Uğur Erdener and President of Samsung Electronics Turkey DaeHyun Kim where Mayor of Beşiktaş Murat Hazinedar and former Minister of State Kürşad Tüzmen gave the medals and trophies of women’s. The medals and trophies of the handicapped swimmers were given by the President of Turkish Swimming Federation Ahmet Bozdoğan and President of Turkish Physically Handicapped Sports Federation Arif Ümit Öztürk.
