Turkish athletes won 2 gold and 3 silver medals on the third day of the European Athletics Championships held in Amsterdam.
Turkish Polat Kemboi Arıkan in men’s 10.000 m became the European champion with his 28:18.52 time and won the gold medal where the runner up Ali Kaya won the silver medal with 28:21.42.
Yasmani Copello Escobar also became the European champion and won the gold medal in men’s 400 m hurdles final clocking 48:98.
Aras Kaya in 3000 m steeplechase placed second and won the silver medal with 8:29.91, bettering his personal best over two seconds and other Turkish athlete Hakan Duvar placed 12th with 8:44.03.
Ramil Guliyev finished the men’s 200 m final race in the 3rd place with 20.51. However, as the winner Churandy Martina from the Netherlands was disqualified due to lane violation, runner-up Spanish Bruno Hortelano became the Champion and Turkish Ramil Guliyev won the silver medal.
Özlem Kaya with 9:44.41 and Meryem Akda with 9:45.69 qualified for the final in women’s 3000 m steeplechase where Elif Karabulut couldn’t finish the race.
Karin Melis Mey in women’s long jump placed fifth with her 6.62 m jump.
Elif Yıldırım in women’s 400 m steeplechase finished her series in 58.40 in fifth place and couldn’t make it to the finals.
Eşref Apak in men’s hammer throw was eliminated where Özkan Baltacı finished his group in the 5th and 8th in total with 73.10 and qualified for the finals.
