The 10th Olympic Climb organised by Turkish Olympic Committee’s (TOC) Sports Culture and Olympic Education Commission, was held successfully in the Erciyes Mountain between 31 May to 5 June 2016.
Students and lecturers from different schools and a climber from Czech Republic attended the event, which takes place on a different mountain every year. The activities were headed by Prof. Dr. Atilla Erdemli and Prof. Dr. Gıyasettin Demirhan.
‘Olympic Seminars’ were also held on the days where there is no climbing. Each climber came prepared with a report on a subject that had been assigned previously. One of the aspects of the Olympic Climb is the presentation and discussions on reports about the harmony between the global values of Olympism and outdoor sports, especially mountaineering. This year’s subject was ‘Tolerance and Friendship’. The discussions were made on the reports and the participants examined the subject sophisticatedly during the Q&A session.
The climbers had the chance to climb only up to 3700m due to the bad weather conditions. Last climb was to Koç Mountain (2617m) where the TOC and Olympic flags were hoisted on the summits they climbed.
