The Turkish Olympic Committee (TOC), which upholds gender equality as one of its core values, is taking significant steps to promote gender equality in both sports and society at large through its "Gender Equality Action Plan 2023-2025".
Recognizing that achieving gender equality in sports is crucial for fostering equality and driving social change nationwide, the TOC board approved the implementation of the Gender Equality Action Plan during its meeting on Tuesday, May 16. The plan, which complements the existing "Gender Equality Policy Document", aims to ensure adequate representation of women at all levels, providing them with equal opportunities for success and career advancement. Additionally, the plan seeks to create a more inclusive work environment where everyone is valued and respected, regardless of gender, and to ensure gender equality in leadership positions.
The Gender Equality Action Plan encompasses various measures, including ensuring gender balance within the TOC General Assembly, Board of Directors, Commissions, Committees, and employees. It also involves establishing term limits for leadership and decision-making positions, monitoring and reporting progress in gender equality, and providing training on gender equality and diversity.
Moreover, the TOC intends to encourage national sports federations to achieve gender balance in their respective General Assemblies, Boards of Directors, and Commissions as well as among their employees, and technical staff (such as coaches, referees, team doctors, psychologists, physiotherapists, etc.). The TOC will support these federations by offering specialized training and courses to women, enabling them to develop leadership skills. It will also nominate and support women in assuming roles in international sports organizations. Successful initiatives and achievements in gender balance will be highlighted and promoted, and flexible working arrangements that facilitate a work-life balance will be encouraged for adoption by the federations.
TOC Gender Equality Action Plan
The TOC's Gender Equality Action Plan is a result of the Guidance to Achieve More Equal Leadership in Sport (GAMES) Project. This project aims to increase the representation of women in leadership and managerial positions within sports. By implementing national action plans developed by partner National Olympic Committees, it is expected that each country will contribute to enhancing women's presence in sports, tailored to their specific conditions.
