Turkish judoka Dilara Lokmanhekim placed third at the European Championships which began today in Kazan, Russia.
Lokmanhekim in women’s 48kg defeated her Hungarian opponent Reka Pupp 2-1 in the third place match and won the bronze medal. Lokmanhekim, who passed the first round bye, defeated French Laetitia Payet with a penalty and Russian Nataliya Kondratyeva with an ippon to qualify for the semi-finals and lost to Hungarian Eva Csernoviczki.
Bekir Özlü competing in the European Championships in men’s 60kg placed fifth. Özlü defeated his Armenian, Bulgarian and Azerbaijani opponents respectively but lost to French Walide Khyar in the-semi-finals and to Hovhannes Davtyan from Armenia in the third place match to place fifth.
Other Turkish judokas Nazlıcan Kılıç in women’s 48 kg placed 7th, Ahmet Şahin Kaba in men’s 60kg and Sinan Sandal in men’s 66 kg were disqualified.
