Samsun Grand Prix, one of the legs of IJF (International Judo Federation) World Judo Tour began today (1 April) in Samsun’s Tekkeköy Yaşar Doğu Sports Hall. Turkey’s Bekir Özlü won gold and Ahmet Şahin Kaba won silver in men’s 60kg where Dilara Lokmanhekim in women’s 48kg won the silver medal in the tournament that is attended by 397 elite athletes from 67 countries.
Dilara Lokmanhekim in women’s 48kg defeated Serbian Milica Nikolic, Sol Mi Kim from Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in the preliminary rounds, Israel’s Shira Rishony in the semi-finals but lost to Kazakhstan’s Otgontsetseg Galbadrakh in the final match to win the silver medal. Brazilian Sarah Menezes and French Laetitia Payet won the bronze medals at this weight category.
Ahmet Şahin Kaba in men’s 60kg defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Uulu Argen Bakytbek, Azerbaijani Orkhan Safarov and Kazakhstan’s Askhat Telmanov in the preliminary rounds and French Vincent Limare in the semi-finals. Another Turkish judoka Bekir Özlü in 60kg defeated USA’s Aaron Kunihiro, Canadian Sergio Pessoa, Uzbekistan’s Diyorbek Urozboev and Azerbaijan’s Ilgar Mushkiyev in the semi-finals to meet Ahmet Şahin Kaba in the finals. Bekir Özlü defeated Ahmet Şahin Kaba in the final and won the gold medal where Ahmet Şahin Kaba won the silver medal. Uzbekistan’s Diyorbek Urozboev and Azerbaijan’s Ilgar Mushkiyev won the bronze medals at this weight.
