The Turkish Olympic Committee’s (TOC) Active Kids Sport Schools Project visited Gaziantep city yesterday 16 February to distribute sports apparel to 500 children, of which more than half are Syrian refugees in cooeperation with German Olympic Sport Confederation (DOSB) and Gaziantep Municipality.
Children also practiced sports such as badminton, basketball, gymnastics, wrestling, judo, karate, archery, taekwondo and volleyball under the supervision of qualified instructors.
Renowned Turkish athletes including Rio 2016 swimmer Nida Eliz Üstündağ, London 2012 middle distance runner Dudu Karakaya, Buenos Aires 2018 modern pentathlete Dora Nusretoğlu and national judoka Kübra Bayram all took part in today’s activities.
Also in attendance were TOC Board Member Seyit Bilal Porsun, Director of the Youth Services Sports Branch of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mehmet Yozbatıran, TRT Spor Spikeri Cüneyt Kıran and Journalist Hasan Sarıçiçek.
Gaziantep children to take part in upcoming Olympic Day celebrations
Celebrated by National Olympic Committees all over the world, Olympic Day festivities will take place across Turkey this summer including Gaziantep City. The TOC will return to Plum Park, Gaziantep during which children will be able to take part in a wide range of sporting activities led by the TOC and famous Turkish athletes.
