On Sunday 1 August Rıza Kayaalp was eliminated in the semi-finals and will now compete in the bronze medal match, while Yasmani Copello reached the finals in athletics and Buse Naz Çakıroğlu reached the semi-finals in boxing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
In shooting, Özgür Varlık finished stage 1 of the men's 25m rapid fire pistol round in 24th place overall with 281 points. Stage 2 will be held tomorrow.
In athletics, Yasmani Copello Escobar clocked a time of 47.88 in the 400m hurdles semi-finals and qualified to run in the final which will be held on 3 August. In women's hammer throw, Tuğçe Şahutoğlu was eliminated in the general ranking with a throw of 66.06m in the group stage.
In boxing, Buse Naz Çakıroğlu defeated Thailand’s Jutamas Jitpong 5-0 in the 51kg quarter-finals match and reached the semi-finals, securing a medal match in the process. Our athlete will face Hsiao-Wen Huang from Chinese Taipei in the semi-finals which will be held on 4 August.
In wrestling, Rıza Kayaalp defeated Lithuania’s Mantas Knystautas 5-1 in his Greco-Roman 130kg debut match, before defeating Germany’s Eduard Popp 6-2 in the quarter-finals to advance to the semi-finals. He lost 2-0 to three-time Olympic Champion Mijain Lopez Nunez of Cuba in the semi-finals and will compete in the bronze medal match. Kerem Kamal lost 8-0 to Moldova’s Victor Ciobanu in his first Greco-Roman 60kg match and was eliminated from the Games. Yasemin Adar defeated Brazil’s Aline Silva 6-0 in her first 76kg match and lost to USA’s Adeline Maria Gray 6-4 in the quarter-finals, remaining in the repechage match where he will face Tunisia’s Zaineb Sghaier on 2 August.
In sailing, Alican Kaynar completed the ninth and tenth races in Finn Class in 10th place, placing 8th in the general classification and qualifying to participate in the medal race on 3 August. Ateş Çınar and Deniz Çınar finished the seventh race in 470 Class in 17th place and the eighth race in 13th place, finishing 9th in the overall ranking. Beste Kaynakçı and Ocean Arıkan, on the other hand, finished the seventh race in 13th place and the eighth race in 18th place in 470 Class, finishing 18th in the overall ranking.
