Our national boxer Busenaz Sürmeneli reached the semi-finals, whilst Kayra Sayit finished fifth in judo on 30 July at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
In athletics, Yasmani Copello Escobar reached the semi-finals with a time of 49:00 in the 400m heats. Yasemin Can finished 6th in her heats in the 5000m with a time of 14:50.92, qualifying for the final. Emel Dereli, on the other hand, was eliminated in the shot put groups with a distance of 17.81m, finishing 16th in the general ranking.
In boxing, Busenaz Sürmeneli defeated Ukraine’s Anna Leyesenko 5-0 in the 69kg quarter-finals and advances to the semi-finals. Esra Yıldız defeated Argentina’s Dayana Erika Iohanna Sanchez 5-0 in the 60kg last 16 round and advanced to the quarter-finals. Bayram Malkan lost to Azerbaijan’s Loren Alfonso in the 81kg quarter-finals and was eliminated.
In judo, Kayra Sayit +78kg defeated Cameroon’s Vanessa Hortace Mballa Atangana in her first match and Ukraine’s Yelyzaveta Kalanina in the second round to reach the quarter-finals. Losing to Japan’s Akira Sone in the quarter-finals, our judoka defeated South Korea’s Mijin Han in repechage with ippon and qualified for the bronze medal match where she lost to France’s Romane Dicko, finishing the Games in 5th place.
In rowing, Onat Kazaklı finished the Games with a time of 7:13.65 in the D final race.
In archery, Yasemin Ecem Anagöz was eliminated in the last 16 round, losing 2-6 to South Korea’s Chaeyoung Kang.
In sailing 470 Men's Class, Deniz Çınar and Ateş Çınar finished the 5th race in 2nd place and the 6th race in the 10th place and moved up to the 6th place with 31 net points. Competing in the 470 Women's Class, Beste Kaynakçı and Ocean Arıkan finished the 5th race in 12th place and the 6th race in 14th place. Welder and Arikan are currently in 18th place with 80.1 points. Ecem Güzel, who competed in the Laser Radial Class, finished the 9th race in 27th place and the 10th race in 20th place, finishing the Games in 20th place overall with 172 net points.
