At Tokyo 2020, our artistic gymnasts qualified for the Olympic Games for the first time in our country’s history, while our mixed archery team consisting of Yasemin Ecem Anagöz and Mete Gazoz came in fourth and our taekwondo athlete Rukiye Yıldırım finished fifth.
In the men's artistic gymnastics qualifiers, Ferhat Arıcan qualified for the final with 15,566 points in parallel bar, where he was the European champion for the last two years, whilst İbrahim Çolak made his mark in the final with 14,933 points in the ring apparatus, where he became the world champion in 2019 and the European champion in 2020. Adem Asil qualified for the final with 84,543 points in the general classification, 14,766 points in men’s vault and 14,800 points in rings. Ahmet Önder, on the other hand, reached the final with 85,665 points in the general classification and 14,466 points in men’s vault.
Yusuf Dikeç and İsmail Keleş achieved the 24th and 25th places respectively with 572 points each in the 10m air pistol qualifications and were eliminated.
Ahmet Örken and Onur Balkan, who represented our country in the men’s road cycling road race, could not complete the race and were eliminated.
Our national athlete Necat Ekinci, who lost 3-2 to his Belarusian rival Aliaksandr Radzionau in the first round of boxing -69 kg, said goodbye to the Games.
In women's judo -48 kg, Gülkader Şentürk lost to Spain’s Julia Figueroa in the first round and was eliminated. In men's -60 kg, Mihrac Akkuş defeated Bhutanese Ngawang Namgyel in the second round, losing to the runner-up Rio 2016 Kazakh opponent and said goodbye to the Games.
Rukiye Yıldırım, who competed in women's taekwondo in the -49 kg, defeated Egypt’s Nour Abdelsalam 21-20 in the first round, Colombia’s Andrea Vargas Ramirez 31-30 in the quarter-finals, Spain’s Adriana Cerezo Iglesias in the semi-finals and Israel’s Abishag Semberg in the bronze medal match 27- He finished the Games fifth with 22 defeats.
In archery, Yasemin Ecem Anagöz and Mete Gazoz's Mixed Team defeated their Russian Olympic Committee and Indonesian rivals 6-2 in their first match and advanced to the semi-finals. Losing 5-3 to the Netherlands in the semi-finals and 6-2 to Mexico in the bronze medal match, our team finished the Olympic Games in fourth place. The competitions of our athletes in the individual category will continue.
In the swimming 100m breaststroke heats, Berkay Ömer EĞİRIR was eliminated with 59.82 in 6th place and Emre Sakçı was eliminated in 7th place with 59.87.
