Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games
Brazil’s renowned city, Rio de Janeiro, will be hosting the 31st Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, the world’s largest international multi-sport event that is held every four years. The Games will be held in South America for the first time. Rio will be the second city in Latin America to host the event after Mexico City in 1968 and the first since 2000 to be held in the Southern Hemisphere. The Olympic Games will be held on August 5-22, 2016 and the Paralympic Games will be held September 7-18, 2016.
Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games will feature sports competitions in 28 branches. The world’s best 10,500 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) will be competing and close to 6,000 administrators, technical people, referees and specialists in a variety of fields will be supporting them all through the games. There will be over 25,000 accredited members of the media that will be covering the Games where approximately 70,000 volunteers will be taking part in the world’s biggest event offering their services in various areas of the organization.
