Turkey’s Freestyle wrestlers collected three silver medals and one bronze medal at the United World Wrestling (UWW) Ivan Yariguin Grand Prix, held in Krasnoyarsk, Russia from 24-27 January.
European, World and Olympic champion Taha Akgül (125kg) defeated wrestlers from Russia, Cuba and China on his way to the final. He won silver after he was unable to overcome Russia’s Anzor Khizriev in his final bout.
Yakup Gör (74kg) secured victories against opponents from Mongolia, Russia and Cuba before facing off with world champion Zaurbek Sıdakov in the final. The Turkish wrestler could not avoid defeat with his Russian winning the bout 5-4.
Fatih Erdin (86kg) defeats opponents from Japan and Russian, crusing through all the way to the final. Unforuntatley he suffered an injury in his final match and bagged another silver for Turkey.
In 97kg, Baki Şahin defeated Mongolia’s Namkhai Batdorj to collect the bronze medal in his category.
