Weightlifter Muhammed Furkan Özbek swept Turkey’s first gold medal away from his Georgian opponent, lifting 135kg in snatch, 170kg in clean and jerk and 305kg in total.
Judoka Ömer Kemal Aydın lost his men’s 100kg semi-final bout but successfully competed for a bronze medal against Modova’s Alim Anaheim, taking Turkey’s second bronze medal at Buenos Aires 2018.
Rowers Barış Ertürk & Emre Kubilay Oğuz (JM2-) finished in 1st place in the C Final and finished 9th in total.
Fencer Nisanur Erbil lost to USA’s Alexis Anglade 15-14 and unfortunately missed out on a place in the quarter finals.
Badminton player Nazlıcan İnci lost 2-0 to her Singaporean opponent in the third group match and sadly missed out on a place in the quarter finals.
Windsurfer Yavuz Eda finished 11th in the Women’s Techno 293+ race.
Turkey’s beach handball team were unsuccessful, losing against the Netherlands 1-0 and 2-1 to Paraguay.
Tennis player Yankı Erel lost to Bulgaria’s Adrian Andreev 3-6, 7-5, 3-6 in the men’s singles second round and missed out on a place in the quarter finals. Yankı also paired up with Margaryta Bilokin in the mixed doubles 1st round, however sadly lost 2-0 and were eliminated.
In swimming, Aleyna Ozkan finished 5th in the women’s 50m butterfly with an impressive time of 27.76 then 7th in the semi-final at 27.77. Beste Gulsen Samanci finished 8th in the women’s 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:13.39.
In the women’s uneven bars, gymnast Nazli Savranbasi finished 25th with a total of 10.266 points and Bora Tarhan finished 19th with 12.700 points overall in the men’s parallel bars.
This leaves Turkey with a total of four medals at the end of day three at the 2018 Buenos Aries Youth Olympic Games.
