Turkey’s young wrestlers won eight medals (one gold and seven bronze) at the World Junior Wrestling Championships in Tallinn, Estonia. The gold medal was won by Kerem Kamal in the 60kg category.
Kerem Kamal becomes World Champion
European and World Junior champion Kerem Kamal defeated fellow European champion Sahak Hovhannisyan in the men’s Greco-Roman style 60kg final to become a world champion for third time. He defeated his Armenian rival with a clear 7-2 advantage after overcoming rivals from Algeria, Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan in the previous rounds.
Greco-Roman style 82kg wrestler Dogan Kaya won a bronze medal after defeating German rival Lucas Alexandros Lazogianis in the third place match after defeating Estonian, Georgian and Kazakh rivals in earlier rounds.
Greco-Roman style 97kg wrestler Beytullah Kayışdağ also won bronze after he defeated European champion Aleks Szoke from Hungary in the third place match. He had beaten his Russian and Estonian rivals on his way to securing bronze.
Greco-Roman style 87kg Bedirhan Tan won a bronze medal after defeating Swedish Jacob Edward Logaard 3-0, following victories over Bulgarian, Croatian and Hungarian opponents.
Greco-Roman style 130kg wrestler Hamza Bakir also won a bronze medal after defeating Georgian rival Robinzon Esadze 5-1, following impressive victories over Greek and Russian rivals.
74kg freestyle wrestler Abdülvasi Balta defeated Simon Marchal of Austria and Parveen Malik of India. Balta then defeated Mongolian rival Bat Erdene Byambasüren to win the bronze medal.
Freestyle 125kg wrestler Paşa Ekrem Karabulut defeated Chinese and Japanese rivals before successfully winning a bronze medal by defeating Georgian rival Vasil Khvistani.
Freestyle 97 kg wrestler Feyzullah Aktürk also secured a bronze medal after victories against opponents from the US, Ukraine and China.
