Nida Karasaka impressively took the Bronze medal for Turkey after competing in the 60kg snatch, 78kg in clean and jerk, lifting a total of 138kg. This is Turkey’s first even bronze medal won by a woman weightlifter at a Youth Olympic Games!
Yankı Erel, Turkey’s Junior Wimbledon Pair’s champion kicked of his Bueno Aries debut with a 6-3 7-6 win against USA’s Tristan Boyer, advancing to second round.
Swimmer Efe Turan finished 1st in the 400m free heat 1 with a time of 3:56:92, but unfortunately missed out on the final as he finished 18th overall. Demirkan Demir finished 4th in the 100m breast heat 1 and advanced to the semi-finals, however, he finished 16th overall with the time of 1:04:05 and could not progress to the final.
Gülşen Beste Samancı quickly advanced to the semi-final in women’s 50m breaststroke with a time of 32.56, but could not qualify for the final as she clocked at 33.23 and finished 15th overall.
Badminton athlete Nazlıcan İnci unfortunately was defeated 2-1 by Great Britain’s Grace King in the first match of her group.
Windsurfer Rda Yavuz finished 20th and 21st in races 1 and 2 respectively.
Gymnast Bora Tarhan finished 16th, with 11.733 points and finished 28th in the floor exercise with 12.066 points, where she was eliminated. Nazlı Savranbaşı was also eliminated, as she finished 34th with 10.500 points in the women’s floor exercise.
Taekwondo athlete Emine Göğebakan (44kg) unfortunately lost to Croatia’s Leno Stojkovic 17-3 in quarter-finals.
Rowers (JM2) Barış Ertürk and Emre Kubilay Oğuz ranked 9th overall in round 1 with an impressive time of 3:29.71.
On Tuesday we will see Turkish athletes from handball, swimming, badminton, judo, windsurfing, gymnastics and weightlifting all competing for medals at Buenos Aries 2018.
