Turkish sprinter Jak Ali Harvey yesterday won Turkey’s first medal at the European Athletics Championships taking place in Berlin.
Jak Ali picked up bronze when he finished third in the men’s 100m with a time of 10.01.
The 29-year-old claims his second European medal since Amsterdam 2016.
Jak Ali was up against some tough opponents in the 100m final with Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes breaking the European Championships record with a time of 9.95. Great Britain’s Reece Prescod finished second with a time of 9.96.
Turkish 400m hurdles athlete Yasmani Copello Escobar made his way to the final with a time of 48.88 in the semis. The reigning champion will hit the track tomorrow 9 August.
About the European Championships
The European Championships is a new multi-sport which takes place every four years. It brings together existing European Championships for some of Europe’s top sports with the inaugural edition taking place in Glasgow and Berlin from 2-12 August.
The European Athletics Championships are taking place in Berlin, whilst Glasgow will host the swimming, cycling, gymnastics, rowing, triathlon and golf competitions.
