On the fourth day of the 2019 European Youth Olympic Summer Festival (EYOF) in Baku, Azerbaijan, Turkey’s national athletes won a total of six medals in judo, swimming, and athletics.
Judokas start day four medal haul
Turkey won three of their haul in judo, with Merve Azak defeating Bulgarian Anastasia Balaban by ippon in the girl’s 44kg final to claim gold. Berat Bahadır, who faced the Belgian rival R. Demets in the men's 55kg final, also won a gold medal after the tie went to golden score. In the girl’s 40kg final, Müberra Güneş lost against Romanian Giorgia-Barbara Haglianu in golden score to take home a silver medal.
Two More Medals From Swimmers
Turkey’s young swimmers also had a successful day four at the Baku 2019 EYOF, winning two medals. Berke Saka won a bronze medal in the men’s 200m individual mixed style final, with a time of 2:03.25. In the men's 4x100m freestyle final, the Turkish team team consisting of Batuhan Filiz, Efe Hacısalihoğlu, Yiğit Aslan and Bora Gülşen also won bronze with a time of 3:28.09.
Özlem Becerek wins Turkey’s final medal of day four
Özlem Becerek, who competed in the evening session, won the sixth medal of the day after winning bronze in the girl’s discus throw final with a throw of 53.43m.
Turkey’s volleyball and basketball teams progress to EYOF semi-finals
In the last match of the group stage, Turkey’s girl’s volleyball national team defeated Germany 3-2 to top the group (with two wins and one loss) and reach the semi-finals. In basketball, the men's team qualified in second place in the group with two wins and one loss.
