Day 9 of the 2nd edition of the European Games proved to be Team Turkey’s most successful day yet, as our athletes came away with 4 medals!
Karate athletes made their first appearance and achieved 4 medals together.
Ali Sofuoglu met his Spanish opponent in the final and finished in 2nd place after scoring 25.60 points, taking the first silver medal!
Bronze medallist of Baku 2015, Dilara Eltemur, retained her title as she scored 24.94 points in the women’s kata category and coming away with the bronze medal!
During the kumite +64kg category final, silver medallist of Baku 2015 Meltem Hocaoğlu was defeated 4-1 by her Spanish opponent but bagged a silver for Team Turkey!
Uğur Aktaş got himself a place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games as he ranked in 1st place. Aktaş was then defeated by his Croatian rival in the finals, but came away with another silver medal!
In wrestling, Cenk Ildem defeated his Finnish opponent in the 97kg category, but then lost to his Serbian rival. On the final day of competition, Ildem will face the next winner and fight for the bronze medal.
In the artistic gymnastic competition, Ferhat Arıcan finished in 9th place with 81.265 points in total.
Team Turkey’s medal count is 10!
On the final day of the European Games, Team Turkey will attend the much anticipated closing ceremony, and will compete in wrestling, karate and gymnastics. Good luck to all our athletes!
