56 of Turkey’s finest young athletes will compete at the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Buenos Aires 2018, in Argentina from 6-18 October.
Turkey’s 30 female and 26 male athletes will compete in 17 sports, including athletics, archery, artistic gymnastics, badminton, fencing, judo, modern pentathlon, rowing, sailing, shooting, swimming, taekwondo, weightlifting and wrestling.
For the first time ever at a Youth Olympic Games, Turkey’s talented athletes will compete in karate, tennis and beach volleyball.
Buenos Aires 2018 will be the first gender balanced Olympic event and will welcome 3998 athletes aged between 15-18 from 206 countries. Athletes from all over the world will compete in 33 sport disciplines at eight different venues.
Turkey’s history at the Summer Youth Olympics
Turkey have competed at the first two Summer Youth Olympics, Singapore 2010 and Nanjing 2014.
A total of 55 Turkish athletes (29 female and 26 male) competed at the first ever edition of the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010.
In total, they brought home 10 medals in the following sports: 1 silver and 1 bronze in boxing, 1 silver in artistic gymnastics, 1 silver in fencing, 1 bronze in football, 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze in wrestling, 1 bronze in weightlifting, 1 bronze in judo, 1 bronze in archery and 2 bronze in taekwondo.
42 Turkish athletes (21 female and 21 male) qualified for Nanjing 2014 where they brought home a total of 10 medals in the following sports: 2 bronze in boxing, 2 silver and 1 bronze in wrestling, 1 gold and 1 bronze in judo, 1 bronze in rowing, 1 silver and 1 bronze in taekwondo.
